Kathmandu: Nepal will be receiving 1.5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines for booster dose from the Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunization (GAVI) next month.

According to the government, the GAVI has confirmed to provide vaccines to Nepal on February 2.

According to Sagar Dahal, chief of the Family Welfare Division of the  Department of Health Services, the GAVI has agreed to send vaccines under the COVAX facility. “In response to a letter Nepal wrote to the GAVI on December 29, GAVI has confirmed sending vaccines to Nepal from the United States of America.”

Nepal decided to request the Gavi for fresh supplies of vaccines as the risk of Covid-19 is increasing with the sudden surge of cases in several countries.

Nepal will receive Pfizer vaccines following the approval of the Department of Drugs Administration (DDA) for the ‘emergency use’ of the vaccine.
