Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that good governance should be the central agenda of the government. While addressing the first session of the new federal parliament in the House of Representatives on Monday, Prachanda, who is also the chair of Maoist Center, said it is time to make politics delivery-oriented rather than reactive.

The Prime Minister also said that the political parties should work together to address the aspirations of people.  He opined that people have given them the conditional mandate and the old way of politicking will not be able to address people’s aspirations.

According to the prime minister, though the lawmakers in the new parliament come from diverse backgrounds, they have a common responsibility to work for the people.  He expressed happiness that new forces and new lawmakers with zeal are in the new parliament.

Meanwhile, addressing the parliament, Sher Bahadur Deuba, erstwhile prime minister and president of Nepali Congress, said that people have expectations from the newly formed parliament. “It is a common goal of all to achieve lasting peace, good governance, development of prosperity through the  federal democratic governance system.  Enhancing this system is the need of the hour,” Deuba said.

Deuba thanked all those who helped in successfully conducting local, provincial and federal parliament elections while he was the prime minister.

CPN-UML chair KP Sharma Oli said the government faces additional challenges amid the serious economic crisis the country is facing.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to face a floor test on Tuesday.
