Death toll in Pokhara plane crash reaches 68

Kathmandu: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has confirmed that the death toll in the Pokhara plane crash has reached 68. 

In a statement, the CAAN said that the deceased include 25 females, 37 males, three infants, and three toddlers.

“The bodies have been sent to the Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences for post-mortem,” according to Ajay KC, chief of Kaski Police.

An ATR 72 aircraft of Yeti Airlines with a call sign 9N-ANC, which took off from Kathmandu at 10:30am and was headed for Pokhara, crashed in a gorge in the Seti River. 

A total of 68 passengers and four crew members were on board the aircraft. According to Yeti Airlines, among the passengers were three infants, three children, and 62 adults. The passengers included 53 Nepalis, five Indians, four Russians, two Koreans, one Argentinian, one Australian, one Irish, and one French. 

The Yeti Airlines’ plane crash in Pokhara is the deadliest in the domestic sector, according to Jagannath Niraula, Spokesperson of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).
