Kathmandu: The search team has recovered the black box of the Yeti Airline aircraft that crashed in Seti River gorge in Pokhara, confirmed the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).
“The black box has been handed over to a team of the Nepal Army. The Nepal Army will hand it over to the Air Crash Investigation Commission in Kathmandu later today,” said Jagannath Niraula, spokesperson for the CAAN.
The black box, also known as Flight data recorder, is an important device that tracks all the activities of the aircraft. It also contains the flight radar record and has a voice record of the cockpit.
On Sunday, an ATR72 aircraft of Yeti Airlines crashed in Pokhara at 10:54 AM, killing at least 68 people on board. The flight with 72 people, including four crew members, took off from the Tribhuvan International Airport.
Of the 72 people on board, 68 have already been confirmed dead.
As of 1:30 PM today, the authorities have identified 36 bodies.
The passengers included 53 Nepalis, five Indians, four Russians, two Koreans, one Argentinian, one Australian, one Irish, and one French.
