Kathmandu: In what appears like a first high level visit from the United States, the US Under Secretary for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, has arrived in Kathmandu Sunday evening. “We are honored to welcome distinguished diplomat and Under Secretary for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland,” the US embassy in Kathmandu announced in its Facebook page.

Under Secretary Nuland has held numerous high-level positions under Presidents Biden, Obama, and Bush, according to the embassy. “During her visit to Nepal, she will meet with government officials to highlight our strong bilateral relationship and experience Nepal’s unique cultural heritage that we have been proud to support,” said the embassy.

On Friday, the Department of State announced that Nuland will travel to Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, and Qatar from January 28 to February 3. “In Nepal, Under Secretary Nuland will engage with the new government on the broad agenda of the U.S. partnership with Nepal,” said the media note issued by the Office of the Spokesperson.

In Kathmandu, Nuland is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Puhspa Kamal Dahal and foreign minister Bimala Rai Paudyal on Monday. She is also supposed to meet Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML chair KP Sharma Oli.
