Kathmandu: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has lifted the suspension of cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane, who has been accused of raping a 17-year-old girl on August 21.

Lamichhane has been charged under Section 219 of the Criminal Code 2074 and faces a potential imprisonment of 10 to 12 years if found guilty.

A meeting of the executive committee of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) decided to lift the suspension on Lamichhane.

On November 4, the Kathmandu District Court ordered to send Lamichhane to the Sundhara-based central jail after a detention hearing.

On January 12, the Patan High Court ordered the release of the suspended cricketer on Rs 2 million bail with conditions.

Following the move of the High Court, the Office of the Attorney General moved the Supreme Court to challenge the decision to release Lamichhane on bail.

The minor filed a case against the cricketer on September 6th, which led to the issuance of an arrest warrant by the Kathmandu District Court on September 7.
