Public transport operators call off protest, reach agreement with government

Kathmandu: The public transport strike in Kathmandu Valley has been called off after the government reached an agreement with the workers’ organizations. 

The agreement includes taking action against those who attacked transport workers, investigating alleged irregularities in Lhotse Multipurpose Pvt Ltd, and addressing the remaining issues of the public transport operators. 

During the strike on Monday that turned violent, protesters set fire to two traffic vans and vandalized a supermarket building.

The transport operators’ organization had announced protest programs and accused traffic police of unlawful fines and unnecessary charges.
