Kathmandu: Deputy Inspector General of Nepal Police, Ashok Singh, has resigned from his position following controversy over his birth date.
Singh officially submitted his resignation to Inspector General Dhiraj Pratap Singh on Wednesday. A source at the Nepal Police Headquarters has confirmed that Singh’s resignation letter has been forwarded to the Home Ministry for approval.
The controversy arose after a Bagbazar resident named Bishwa Prakash Bhetwal lodged a complaint with the Commission of Abuse of Authority, alleging that Singh had provided false information on his official documents, including his birth date and educational qualifications.
Following an investigation into the matter, it was revealed that Singh had different birth dates listed on his official documents. According to Singh’s citizenship certificate, which he obtained from the Kailali District Administration Office on June 4, 1985, his age at the time was 18 years.
Singh had only mentioned his birth year in the certificate, which means that according to the Nepal Police Directives, his birth date is considered to be the same as the date on which he obtained his citizenship, i.e., June 5, 1967. However, Singh’s academic documents show his birth date as December 30, 1968.
In 1994, Singh had applied for the post of Inspector based on the birth date listed on his academic certificate. The controversy ultimately led to Singh’s resignation from his position as Deputy Inspector General of Nepal Police.
