Kathmandu: The Department of Foreign Employment (DOFE) has halted approval for foreign employment in the position of motorcycle rider and taxi driver to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar. It took the decision to this effect acting on the complaints by Nepali migrant workers in the UAE and Qatar that they have been deprived of salaries and other facilities as per the agreement by their employers.

Lately, the DOFE received many complaints by Nepali workers in the foreign employment destinations that they have been facing many problems ranging from being deprived of salaries agreed upon to being fined for violating traffic rules and meeting with road accidents due to a lack of knowledge and experiences of traffic rules, said the DOFE information officer Krishna Prasad Bhusal. This is why, the Department halted foreign employment permission in these positions in the two foreign job destinations, he said, adding that the decision will remain in effect until another decision.
