Kathmandu: The CPN-UML party on Monday decided to withdraw from the government after its coalition partner, CPN (Maoist), declared to support the Nepali Congress candidate in the upcoming presidential election.

The decision to withdrew support from the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government was made during a secretariat meeting on Monday morning, in response to changes in the political situation leading up to the presidential election.

While the UML party had initially planned to wait until after the March 9th election before making a final decision on leaving the government, the meeting ultimately decided to withdraw support after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal began working in a different manner, according to UML Vice-Chairman Bishnu Paudel.

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party had previously resigned from the government on Saturday.
