Kathmandu: Nepali Congress lawmaker Arzu Rana Deuba has said there are loopholes in the digital archive of Nepal Army and she has the information to that effect.

She is of the view that Nepalis are not fully capable of using the digital system though such a system has been in application in the country for quite some time.

Rana made this revelation on Tuesday while addressing the ‘All Nepal Hackathon’ program organized by Nepal Students’ Union, the student wing of Nepali Congress, in the capital.

She claimed that she has received information about the sensitive data of Nepal Army reaching as far as Turkey, adding that Nepal needs to develop its own technology for cyber security. “Unless Nepal develops its own technology for cyber security, there always will remain a risk of theft of Nepal’s sensitive data and all kinds of statistics,” she said.

“They showed me all the data of the Nepal Army in Turkey. They showed me all the emails of the generals. They were the personal emails but it is possible to see any kinds of emails related to security from another country,” said Rana. “Recently, even the websites of the government agencies were hacked.” She called on the students to carry out further research about the issue and said that Nepal needs to be able to find a solution to the problem by itself.
