Kathmandu: The government has appointed Basanta Kunwar as the new Inspector General (IG) of Nepal Police. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting held on Friday, following the retirement of current Inspector General Dhiraj Pratap Singh.
Kunwar, who was previously serving as an Additional Inspector General (AIG), has now become the 30th Inspector General of Nepal Police. He is the top-ranked AIG among the five recently promoted officers from the post of Deputy Inspector General (DIG). The other officers who were promoted to AIG, including Tek Prasad Rai, Deepak Thapa, Shyam Lal Gyawali, and Kiran Bajracharya, were also contenders for the position of top cop.
Kunwar joined the police force on March 19, 1995, as an inspector.
