Road to Asia Cup: Nepal faces Malaysia in opener

The winner of the ACC Premier Cup will secure a place in the Asia Cup, where they will be grouped with cricketing giants India and Pakistan.

Kathmandu: The Nepali national cricket team is set to play against Malaysia in the opening match of the ACC Premier Cup, which will be held today at the TU International Cricket Stadium in Kirtipur, Kathmandu, today.

The tournament will run until May 1, and the winner will secure a place in the Asia Cup, where they will be grouped with cricketing giants India and Pakistan. Nepal is placed in Group B, alongside Oman, Qatar, Malaysia, and Saudi Arabia, while the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Singapore, and Bahrain are in Group A. 

After the opening match, Nepal will play against Oman on April 21. The team will then play against Saudi Arabia at the Mulpani Cricket Stadium on April 24, followed by a match against Qatar at the TU Stadium on April 27. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the semi-finals, scheduled for April 29, with the final taking place on May 1. 

The winners of the tournament will qualify for the Asia Cup, which will be held in Pakistan in September. The champions of the ACC Premier League will be placed in the group with cricketing giants India and Pakistan. 

The ACC Premier Cup will also offer an opportunity for the top three teams to earn berths in the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup, which will be held in Nepal in July. The champions will be grouped with ‘A’ teams from India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, while the other two teams will play against ‘A’ teams from Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
