Kathmandu: The government has made it mandatory for tobacco and gutkha products to be packaged in biodegradable wrappers. From Baisakh 1 next year, tobacco and gutkha must be packaged in biodegradable wrappers.

Unveiling the annual budget for the upcoming fiscal year, Finance Minister Prakash Saran Mahat said that the government has implemented a new policy mandating the use of biodegradable packaging for tobacco and gutkhas.

Currently, these products are packaged in plastic wrappers, which contribute to environmental pollution. By requiring the tobacco and gutkha industry to transition to biodegradable wrappers, this measure aims to reduce the impact on the environment.
