At the ceremony, Zou Zhiqiang, Director of the Nepal Office of the China Rural Development Foundation, introduced the China Rural Development Foundation and the Nepal Tea Project to Chinese and foreign guests. The Consulate General of Nepal in Chengdu and Sichuan Dengyao Machinery Equipment Co Ltd also attended the tea machinery launching ceremony. They expressed sincere gratitude for the recognition and support of the tea support project in Nepal, deepening the Nepali Consulate General’s understanding of Leshan and its role as a Chinese tea industry base. This will help bring more knowledge of China’s tea industry to Nepal and understand China’s rural revitalization achievements better, thereby supporting the China Foundation for Rural Development Project in Nepal more effectively.

Ma Jia, Deputy Consul General of Nepal in Chengdu, expressed gratitude to the China Foundation for Rural Development for its nine years of poverty alleviation efforts in Nepal. He highlighted the introduction of China’s advanced tea processing technology and machinery to Nepal, aimed at improving tea production conditions and fostering opportunities for the development of the Nepali tea industry. Ma Jia conveyed excitement about the prospects and hoped to witness Nepali tea farmers working happily with these advancements. He also urged the China Foundation for Rural Development to enhance training for Nepalese tea farmers to maximize the benefits of the newly transported machinery. Furthermore, he pledged to report to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal to expedite the entry of these machines into Nepal.

Chen Yingli, Deputy Director of Leshan Economic Cooperation and Foreign Affairs Bureau, congratulated the China Foundation for Rural Development on the successful shipment of tea machinery. He noted that tea and related agricultural machinery from Sichuan Dengyao Machinery Equipment Co., Ltd. have previously been welcomed in Laos and other Southeast Asian countries since the early 2000s, and it’s a significant milestone for them to enter Nepal for the first time. Chen expressed hope that the Nepal Tea Project initiated by the China Foundation for Rural Development would bring tangible benefits to the local population.

Nepali organic tea holds significant global popularity. However, due to the absence of adequate technical support for both tea planting and processing, tea farmers endure challenging livelihoods, relying solely on tea picking for income. The Nepal Tea Project, a 2023 Overseas Rural Revitalization Innovation Project initiated by the China Foundation for Rural Development, aims to alleviate these difficulties.

The project seeks to enhance Nepal’s tea processing capabilities and elevate the quality of tea products by introducing advanced Chinese tea processing equipment. Through technical intervention, it aims to bolster tea quality and consequently increase the income of tea farmers. Upon completion, the project will support the processing of nearly 3 million tea trees cultivated by over 160 tea farmers in Kimtang Village, Nuwakot District, Nepal. This project aims to uplift the region’s tea industry by improving the quality of tea products.
