Kathmandu: The ruling alliance has decided to contest the local polls slated for May 13 in a united manner. The decision was taken at a meeting held at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar on Thursday, said CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Jhala Nath Khanal.

Khanal said that the decision on electoral alliance in the metropolis will be taken by the central leadership and the local committee will be allowed to decide for other municipalities. Khanal said that an agreement has been reached to form a mechanism for that.

Despite fierce opposition from leaders close to the Shekhar Koirala faction, the central working committee of the ruling Nepali Congress on Tuesday had decided in the favor of an electoral alliance with the ruling coalition parties for the next local level elections. Other parties in the alliance were already in favor of the electoral alliance.
