13 mourners confirmed missing in Kalikot landslide

Kathmandu: A total of 13 mourners have been confirmed buried by a landslide in Tilagufa Municipality of Kalikot district of Karnali province.

Inspector Shubraj Bam, Information Officer at District Police Office Kalikot said that 13 people who had gone to a river bank to attend the final rites of a local youth Hemraj Shahi were buried by the mudslide.

Inspector Bam said that locals had informed the law enforcement agency on Saturday that 15 people have gone missing. However, it has been confirmed that 13 people have gone missing after they were hit by a landslide while attending the final rites on the bank of Tila River on Sunday afternoon.

He added that a search and rescue team from the district headquarters is unable to reach the incident site as the Karnali highway has been blocked due to landslides at multiple locations. A team from local police posts has reached the incident site, he said.

Those missing in the landside are 63-year-old Dhan Bahadur Shahi, 40-year-old Kali Bahadur Shahi, 36-year-old Chhatrajung Shahi, 26-year-old Khagendra Shahi, 23-year-old Bhesh Bahadur Shahi, 55-year-old Dhan Shahi, 76-year-old Ali Shahi, 23-year-old Khemraj Shahi, 57-year-old Man Bahadur Shahi. 41-year-old Motilal Shahi, 56-year-old Param Bahadur Shahi, 24-year-old Naresh Shahi, and 23-year-old Prashant Shahi.
